Description:

The City of Wildwood, St. Louis County, Missouri, is seeking proposals for supplementary historical research and content supporting a new historic marker within the City honoring local men who enlisted in the United States Colored Troops (USCT). This research and content will be featured on the City’s website, linked to a QR code featured on the installed marker, and be used for other purposes to be determined by the City’s Historic Preservation Commission.

Suggested topics of interest for this research and content include:

  • General history of the area featured on the marker’s map (present day Babler State Park, and the area around the intersection of Madison Valley (formerly Old Slave Road) and Wild Horse Creek Road).
  • General history of the Coleman and Tyler Plantations, contextualizing both within the larger context of Missouri and Virginia (the origination of the families).
  • General history of the United States Colored Troops (USCT), with a focus on Missouri and the Bonhomme and Meramec Townships.
  • Individual histories of Elijah Madison and each of the men identified on the marker.
  • Burial information about each individual listed on the marker.
  • Information about local cemeteries relevant to these identified men.
  • Other information deemed relevant to this project.

Proposals should contain, at minimum:

  • Statement of Interest in the project (no more than a paragraph)
  • A Scope of Work (no more than two (2) pages)
  • Resume(s) of the individuals performing the work or short statement of qualifications
  • Discussion of relevant previous work, if applicable (no more than a page)

Proposals shall be delivered or emailed to the Department of Planning and Parks, City of Wildwood, 16860 Main Street, Wildwood, Missouri 63040, by no later than 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 21, 2023.

The City reserves the right to negotiate with multiple parties and accept proposals in-whole or in-part. If multiple entities have previous research, archival information, or special qualifications relevant to this project, the City may engage more than one (1) party in this work and negotiate accordingly.
